If you sell wine as a or in your business, don’t think that your customers are not savvy enough to know that your adding 1000% mark up on the price.
Having a smaller wine list starting at a very low price will enable you to drive more yield through your wine sales and having a box wine for the bar or house wine will further drive down the cost and increase the yield.

Don’t forget supermarkets are currently offering quality bottles from as low as £3.99 whilst still making at least 70% GP. You could do the same …
Can one of the reasons why they mark up their prices so high because people pay corkage fees?
No, corkage is something the industry made up to prevent the BYOB trend and is merely a way of recapturing the lost revenue on the day of the charge.
Can you clarify the ‘lost revenue’? Thanks!
The idea being that if an event took place and someone bring there own wine the corkage is a way to counter act loosing revenue on there own wine stock or bar spend.
